Did you pick the popular CZ Scorpion EVO 3? Great choice. To get the best results, your gun needs regular maintenance. Here is where to look and how often to clean it.

Safety first
Before you start any work, check the chamber with your eyes and finger to make sure it is empty. Treat the gun as loaded until you verify this step.
Checking the chamber prevents an accidental discharge.
Bore snake vs cleaning rod

I recommend keeping both in your range bag because each tool serves a different job.
A bore snake is a cord with a brass weight on the end. Drop it through the barrel for quick care right after shooting. Put a drop of solvent on the front end, pull it through, and the dry tail cleans the bore.
Use a solid cleaning rod for a proper deep clean. You will need a jag attachment and cotton patches. Wet the first patch with solvent and push it through. Follow up with dry patches until they come out clean.
Blowback action in the CZ Scorpion EVO 3
The 9x19mm CZ Scorpion EVO 3 uses a simple blowback action and a polymer frame. It is one of the most popular carbines for IPSC PCC shooters and law enforcement.
The unlocked blowback design blows a lot of carbon and brass dust into the receiver. That is where you want to spend your cleaning time.
Basic maintenance

Basic care is enough after every 2-3 range trips, or about 300-500 rounds. You can finish it in 10 minutes. Here is how we do it:
- pull a bore snake through the barrel 2-3 times,
- wipe powder residue off the bolt body,
- clean the bolt face and the extractor hook with a brass or nylon brush.
Deep cleaning
Do a deep clean every 1500 rounds, or every time you shoot with a suppressor.
What you need
- a 9mm cleaning rod with a jag,
- a 9mm nylon bore brush,
- gun cleaner or solvent safe for polymer frames,
- gun oil (CLP),
- a stiff brush or a brass/nylon detail brush,
- cotton swabs, patches, and a microfiber cloth.

WARNING: Never use aggressive solvents like pure acetone on polymer frames because they cause permanent damage.
How we do it
- Before you touch anything, drop the magazine, pull the bolt back and look into the chamber.
- Remove the trigger housing, the heavy steel bolt, and the recoil spring assembly.
Cleaning the bolt
Carbon builds up heavy on the steel bolt block. Spray it with solvent and let it soak for a few minutes.
- Scrub the bolt face and the space under the extractor claw with your detail brush.
- Clean the guide grooves with a brush and cotton swabs, then wipe them dry.
- Wipe the whole bolt body dry with your microfiber cloth.
Cleaning the polymer frame and trigger
Spray gun cleaner inside the frame and wipe it dry with a microfiber cloth. Use a brush or cotton swab to lift dust out of the trigger mechanism.
Apply one small drop of oil to the hammer pin and the sear contact point.
Cleaning the barrel and chamber

- Put a wet solvent patch on your jag. Push it through the barrel from the chamber end toward the muzzle, then let the solvent sit.
- Attach your bore brush and push it from chamber to muzzle 3-5 times. Never scrub it back and forth.
- Push dry patches through until they come out completely clean and dry.
- Wipe the chamber dry with a cotton swab.
Lubrication and reassembly
Put oil on the bolt guide rails where they slide in the frame, on the recoil spring guide rod, and two drops on the hammer pivot points inside the trigger assembly.
No oil inside the chamber, the magwell, or inside your magazines. Wet surfaces inside the magazine attract debris that will cause feeding failures.
Reassemble the carbine and perform a dry-fire function check in a safe direction.
Spare parts worth keeping in your bag
The design of the CZ Scorpion EVO 3 is simple and tough. Still, some parts take more force than others. I recommend keeping a spare set in your range bag:
- extractor and extractor spring,
- magazine springs and followers,
- magazine base pads,
- takedown pin.
You can find spare factory parts and upgrade gear in our CZ Scorpion Evo 3 accessories section.
